A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman in Manay, Davao Oriental drowned while swimming at a resort in Barangay Central on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the SK chairman went swimming with his family and friends when big waves hit.

A witness reportedly tried to save the SK chairman but lost grip of the victim.

Members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) and Coast Guard Station Davao Oriental searched for the victim and found his body near the resort morning on Wednesday, April 2.

They then brought his remains to a funeral home.

Authorities urged beachgoers and resort operators to exercise caution when swimming in open waters and emphasized the importance of proper safety protocols such as designating lifeguards and using warning signages to prevent drowning incidents.
