A closed-circuit television (CCTV) video recorded the presence of a man in blue shirt, wearing a face mask, walking toward a house.
Minutes later, he was seen changing into grey long sleeves. He seemingly could not stay put, until he left the area. But upon his return, he was seen bringing a ladder that he placed near the window grills of a house.
There were other persons who passed in the vicinity of the house. The man was seen to have acted as though he was a handyman doing repairs outside of the house, until he was able to climb to the second floor.
The man in the video is a suspect in a burglary reported in Barangay Santo Niño Sur, Arevalo District in Iloilo City.
According to the houseowner, no one was at home when the incident happened past 3 p.m. on April 1, 2025.
It was already about 9 p.m. when the owner, alias “Inday,” discovered of the break-in because the sliding window on the second floor of the house was already open, and that valuables were missing.
The suspect carted away pieces of jewelry worth approximately P100,000, and imported wine.
“Doon ko na napagtanto na ang aparador ko, wala nang kandado. Mabilis ko itong binuksan at doon ko na nakitang wala na ang bracelet, mga singsing, isang kwintas, at hikaw,” alias “Inday” said.
Investigation done by the authorities is ongoing, as of this writing.
Based on the suspect’s behavior in the video, police said he is adept at burglary.
The police are tracking down his location, as of posting time.
The incident is already the fourth in a series of thefts that occurred in Iloilo City in the last week of March 2025 to the first week of April 2025. Two incidents were recorded in the District of Mandurriao, and one in the District of Jaro.
The Iloilo City Police Office said it has monitored tightly the series of thefts.
