A private company will start taking over the operations of the Laguindingan Airport in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental staring April 2025.
This after a 35-year contract was signed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and Aboitiz Infracapital through public-private partnership.
The project, which has an investment capital of P12.75 billion, include expansion of the airport terminal building, runway extension, and maintenance of airport facilities.
The partnership aims to enhance the airport’s capacity to accommodate more flights and passengers.
“Yung goal talaga natin is to really boost the passenger capacity of the airport once magawa natin itong unang hakbang itutuloy-tuloy na natin ang ibang plans like improving infrastructure, adding more retail options for our passengers,” Franz Jonathan De La Fuente of the Aboitiz Infracapital Corporate Communications said.
At present, the airport has more than 400 employees.
According to the company, some employees will be retained while negotiations are ongoing regarding others who will be affected by the transition.
“We have already reached out sa mga employees nato and there have been talks already regarding their employment status we have given offers,” De La Fuente said.
The company also assured the public that there will be no increase in terminal fees this year.
The Laguindingan Airport is among the nine airports nationwide that have been placed under a public-private partnership for development without government spending.
