Newborn twins were rescued by the authorities in Bacolod City from their 37-year-old mother who is allegedly a drug dependent.

A video footage showed the rescue operation conducted by the Bacolod City Department of Social Services and Development along with other government agencies.

The Local Government Unit of Bacolod City has sought to take into custody the female baby twins in order to protect them from their own mother.

According to the barangay, the mother is a drug dependent and has reportedly been demonstrating violent behavior.

It was learned that the woman has been hurting physically her 82-year-old father.

“Involved siya sa drugs. I-rescue namin pumayag man ang pamilya o hindi. Threat sa pamilya at mga residente. Nagiging bayolente siya binabato niya, minumura niya ang mga tao,” Barangay 39 Chairman Dante Danoy said.

The barangay is bothered by the woman giving birth to twins in February 2025 when they learned that the babies are not in good condition.

Further, the mother was photographed carrying her babies in a box.

“Ang mga sanggol, malnourished. Nag-advice [advise] ako sa lolo na dalhin sana sa health center para i-immunize. Ang mother dalhin sana sa rehabilitation sa Handumanan,” Melba Jimiera, a midwife at Barangay 39, said.

Mary Dagandanan, a barangay health worker, confirmed that the woman did not seek medical assistance in her delivery.

"Siya mismo ang nagpaanak sa sarili niya. Siya ang kumuha sa baby at nag-cut ng pusod gamit ang clamp" Dagandanan said.

The rescue operation was conducted on April 4, 2025.

The woman was taken to the hospital temporarily while the rehabilitation facility where she would be referred is being studied.

Meanwhile, the babies went through a medical checkup.

As of this writing, the twins are under the care of an orphanage.

Members of the twins' family or their relatives may take them into custody once their health improves and their welfare is given priority.

“Ang hangad natin ay ang best interest ng mga sanggol. Ang gusto natin is wholistic ang intervention,” said Dr. Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, head of the Bacolod City Department of Social Services and Development.

Relatives of the woman did not grant GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas an interview but assured they will take good care of the twins if given the custody.

As of posting time, the identity of the babies' father has not been determined.
