Security measures are in place in Cebu City for the observance of the Holy Week.
The anti-criminality strategy of the Cebu City Police dubbed "Huliweek" will focus tightly on areas in the city where pilgrims and visitors tend to gather for religious activities during the Holy Week.
The monitoring will start by Sunday, April 13, 2025, or during the traditional blessing of palm fronds at church rites, and up until Resurrection Sunday.
Police will secure areas where believers will gather for contemplation and offering of sacrifices, such as at Stations of the Cross that includes Tabor Hills in Barangay San Jose, Cebu City, among other pilgrimage sites.
However, many areas of Cebu City are expected to be free from crowds as several individuals are expected to go home to their provinces.
Vigilance will focus more on unscrupulous individuals expected to take advantage of the holidays.
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has urged again residents to secure their houses, or to leave a caretaker when deciding to go out of town to pad incidents of burglary or theft, according to Police Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, deputy city director for operations.
The heightened alert is hoisted until the elections in May 2025.
