Korean tourists lost over P300,000 and important documents to at least eight thieves at a tourist spot in upland Cebu City.
The incident was caught on video.
The Korean tourists were seen in the video placing down a bag beside a concrete post.
While they were preoccupied in picture-taking, other persons deemed also as tourists came near them. There were those who took selfies, while others served as shield to a man who took the bag.
The incident happened on April 6, 2025 at around 5 p.m.
The group of thieves reportedly left the area immediately on board two taxicabs.
Based on a post of the person who uploaded the video, the management of the tourist spot coordinated with them and reported the incident to the police.
Police disclosed that the lost bag contained P350,000, 90 dollars, and important documents.
As of posting time, the victims have already gone home to Korea but hope that their host in Cebu City would be able to assist them seek police action.
Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director, Police Colonel Enrico Figueroa, said that the band of thieves is an organized group and not from Cebu City.
Figueroa directed stringent security measures imposed at tourist spots in the city where unscrupulous individuals tend to pounce upon unsuspecting tourists expected to flock during the holidays.
