All tourism activities near Mount Kanlaon in Negros Island have been suspended temporarily, according to an advisory of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The suspension includes treks and visits to nearby destinations such as La Carlota City, Bago City, La Castellana town, and other surrounding areas in the Province of Negros Occidental.

“The Department of Tourism, in collaboration with its regional offices in Central Visayas (Region VII) and Western Visayas (Region VI), is actively monitoring the situation following the eruption of Mount Kanlaon on April 8, 2025,” DOT said in the advisory dated April 9, 2025.

DOT cited of ashfall reported in various barangays, particularly within La Carlota City.

“Additionally, several municipalities in Negros Occidental, as well as parts of Guimaras, and the provinces of Iloilo and Antique, are experiencing ashfall, with forecasts still in effect,” it added.

“The local government of Canlaon City has enforced a strict prohibition on entry into the six-kilometer extended danger zone surrounding the volcano. Consequently, tourist attractions in Canlaon City have remained closed since the elevation to Alert Level 2,” DOT added.

Alert Level 3, on intensified unrest or magmatic unrest, has been hoisted over Kanlaon Volcano since its eruption on December 9, 2024.

DOT emphasized that currently, there are no reports of stranded tourists related to the eruption.

“All tourist accommodations and infrastructure have been assessed as structurally sound, and local tourism offices continue to monitor the situation closely,” DOT further stated.

“We advise tourists to postpone any travel plans to these locations and to adhere to the safety measures established by local authorities. We urge the public to remain vigilant, follow official advisories from PHIVOLCS and local authorities, and avoid disseminating unverified information,” the advisory added.
