As heat scorches most of the country, thousands of tourists are expected to flock to Baguio City this Holy Week to enjoy its cool weather, but police are warning visitors to stay alert against scams and prepare for heavy traffic.

According to PAGASA, temperatures in Baguio range from 16°C to 26°C and are expected to stay that way through the Holy Week.

“Sa mga bisita nating aakyat dito sa Baguio City, ugaliing magdala lagi ng pananggalang ng ulan. Dahil sa hapon kasi may mga expected tayo na pag-ulan. So payong saka magdala na rin ng jacket,” Engr. Larry Esperanza, PAGASA Baguio Chief Meteorological Officer, said.

The city expects more than 150,000 visitors this Holy Week, based on last year's record.

Baguio Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo said tourism has grown since the city was named a UNESCO Creative City.

“After we have been designated as a UNESCO Creative City, there's been a renaissance of culture and arts scene here in Baguio City. Not only in terms of art galleries or museums, but even in gastronomy,” Mapalo said.

FAKE BOOKINGS

Police warn travelers about fake accommodation listings online.

“They will post yung mga properties… pinapa-down payment agad na kesyo it's a limited slot lang… pag pinupuntahan po nila yung lugar, wala pala yung ganong lugar. So it's fake,” PMaj. Grace Marron, Baguio City Police (BCPO) spokesperson, said.

Tourists are advised to book only through verified platforms such as the Visitor Information and Travel Assistant (VISITA) Baguio website or the official Baguio Tourism Facebook page.

TRIPLE TRAFFIC

Traffic congestion is also expected to triple.

“Normally po, ang nagpa-ply po na sasakyan natin sa Baguio is 30,000 to 35,000. Naka-times three po siya pagka peak season po natin, kagaya ng Holy Week,” PMaj. James Dogao, acting chief of Baguio City Traffic, said.

To help ease movement, travelers may use "Bakasyon Lanes" and download the BCPO View Baguio app for real-time traffic, crowd estimates, and parking space availability.

Around 600 police and volunteers will be deployed to ensure safety. Kennon Road is open but only for light vehicles. Visitors can also use Marcos Highway.

Authorities remind everyone to remain patient, stay alert, and enjoy a safe, scenic summer getaway in the country’s Summer Capital.
