A grenade and several firearms were seized in a raid in Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Zamboanga del Sur and other police units arrested the suspect identified as alias “Junrell” by virtue of a search warrant.

CIDG said the suspect is a member of a potential private armed group that could be utilized by local politicians.

Confiscated during the raid were MK2 fragmentation hand grenade, a caliber 5.56 M16 rifle, caliber .45 pistol, and ammunition.

The suspect is now facing charges for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591) and unlawfully bearing and possessing firearms and explosives (RA 9516).

“Rest assured that your CIDG is relentless in accounting and seizing all loose firearms and explosives nationwide and unyielding in its fight against all forms of criminality, criminal groups and private armed groups,” CIDG Director, Major General Nicolas Torre III, said.
