Prices of vegetables at the Mangaldan Public Market are still going up even after the Holy Week.
Several vegetables went up by P5 per kilo as of April 22:
- Talong – P60/kg
- Ampalaya – P70/kg
- Sitaw – P85/kg
- Kalabasa – P45/kg
- Okra – P105/kg
- Kamatis – P35/kg
- Repolyo – P100/kg
- Wombok – P70/kg
- Broccoli – P80/kg
- Sayote – P30/kg
- Carrots – P40/kg
- Patatas – P80/kg
- Benguet Beans – P80/kg
“Ito ang mataas, tsaka mga buto ng gulay, mataas din ang sigarilyas,” said Fely Esfero, a vegetable vendor.
Some customers still choose to buy despite the price hike.
“Kailangan kasi ang gulay kaya kahit mataas, bibilhin dahil kailangan ng katawan,” Jimmy Biay, a regular buyer, said.
Esfero said sales dropped after Holy Week.
“Noong Semana Santa, maganda ang bentahan. Ngayon, mahina na talaga kasi bakasyon na,” she added.
The Benguet Vendors and Traders Association said supply issues have caused the price increase of some vegetables.
Meanwhile, prices of well-stocked vegetables like carrots and potatoes remain stable.
Seasoning ingredients also kept their prices:
- Onion – P100/kg
- Garlic – P140/kg
- Ginger – P160/kg
