Three people were reportedly bitten by a dog that was later tested positive for rabies in Barangay Daliao, Davao City.

“Nagparking sila diri unya ang iro niagi man. Pag-agi sa iro, niana napahitan iyang papa kay bale gipahawa man niya kay nalainan na siya sa iro ba, gibalewala lang sa iyang papa. Pagka-morning kay recognition ani, naghulat siya sa iyang papa sa gawas, didto na sya napaakan sa iro,” the grandmother of the six-year-old girl said.

The barangay’s Animal Control Team captured the dog, which later died.

Based on the laboratory results, the dog tested positive for rabies.

“Ang advice sa amoa nga dal-on nalang daw sa laboratory nila for examination sa rabies, it so happened nga nag-positive jud sa rabies,” Barangay Daliao Chairman, Joseph Dumogho, said.

The three residents were vaccinated and are now safe.

In Sitio San Isidro, a pig also tested positive for rabies after it was bitten by a stray dog.

“Karon kay nagluya man ang baboy, so giputol dayon namo ang ulo para malaboratory, nag-positive man og rabies ang baboy,” Dumogho added.

The City Veterinarian’s Office is now investigating the incidents.

Dogs within a 500-meter radius of the rabid dog were vaccinated along with pigs near the infected pig.

An anti-rabies vaccination drive was also launched in every purok (zone) and stray dogs have been rescued.
