Ilocos Sur has confirmed its first case of mpox involving a 34-year-old woman from Tagudin, the provincial government said in an official statement.
The patient first experienced fever, rashes, and swollen lymph nodes while abroad in December 2024.
She returned to the Philippines on March 1, 2025, and is now receiving treatment in a hospital.
Health officials said the case is isolated and has no sign of local transmission, as the patient has a history of international travel.
Local epidemiology and surveillance officers are now tracing people who may have had close contact with the patient.
Authorities advised the public to stay calm and follow preventive measures that will be announced in the coming days.
