A man was arrested for allegedly making a false report that he was robbed at gunpoint by armed men in Barangay San Agustin, Samal Island.

Police said the man claimed that he was robbed, prompting authorities to launch an operation, which caused inconvenience to motorists.

Investigators started to doubt when the man’s accounts became inconsistent during interrogation.

The man admitted later that his claims were not true.

“Giprangka namo siya nga pagsulti na og tinuod later on inamin niya nangayo siyag pasaylo sa amoa sa kapulisan nga di daw tinuod iyang report. File-lan gyud namo siya og kaso,” Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS) City Police Chief, Lt. Col. Hamlet Lerios, said.

The man allegedly told the police that he used the P10,000 given by his wife for the electric bill to place a bet on Small Town Lottery (STL).

Police are determined to press charges against the man for alleged spreading false information under Presidential Decree 90.

“Di gyud ta magbakak. You cannot outsmart a police man yang mga policeman sanay yan sa pag-iimbestiga malalaman tanan, pag mamakak naay karampatan na penalty,” Lerios added.
