As excitement builds for the “Gilon-Gilon ed Baley,” one of the biggest highlights of the Bangus Festival, the Dagupan City government is doubling down on health and safety preparations to protect both performers and spectators from the extreme heat.
The street dancing competition, set for 3 p.m. on April 26, will bring color and energy to downtown Dagupan. Dancers will parade from the Downtown Loop to the City Plaza, cheered on by thousands.
But with the summer temperatures soaring, the Dagupan City Health Office (CHO) will deploy five medical teams composed of doctors and nurses.
These teams will be stationed at key locations: Plaza Exit, Post Office, Quintos Bridge, MH del Pilar, and Perez Bridge.
“Aside from medical team, may nakaabang na ambulance para madala sa nearest hospital mga pasyente,” City Health Officer Dr. Ma. Julita De Venecia said.
In addition, the city will set up public water stations along the parade route, including Perez Boulevard, MH Del Pilar, and AB Fernandez Avenue to help prevent dehydration and heat stroke.
“It’s open for all lalo na ‘yung water station natin para maiwasan ang heat exhaustion, heat stroke,” De Venecia added.
Meanwhile, performers like Justine Cayabyab, a street dancer from Cluster 5, are fired up and ready to perform after placing fourth last year.
“This year, babawi kami. Last year, andaming nagsabi na hindi naming kaya. This year, ilalaban namin. Fighting Cluster 5!” she said.
