Authorities destroyed at least 31 firearms surrendered by the New People’s Army in Davao region under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).
The destruction took place at the parade grounds of the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) headquarters in Davao City on Friday, April 25, 2025.
The guns were cut using a metal circular saw to ensure that these would not be used again.
“This progress has been made possible with the strong collaboration with our LGU and partner agencies further advancing the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms,” PRO-11 Director, Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, said.
“Today’s demilitarization of firearms symbolizes our commitment in the peace and order in the region,” Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Davao City Director, Vicky Salcena, added.
Though the region has already been declared insurgency-free, the military continues to conduct operations to prevent any resurgence, especially amid reports of NPA recruitment via social media platforms.
“Dahil nga nahihirapan na sila on the ground yung usual na ginagawa nila na physical recruitment somehow nawala na ang hawak nila sa mga masa kaya ito yung ini-exploit o mina-maximize nila using the online platforms meron naman tayong ginagawang measures dyan,” 1003rd Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Marion Angcao, said.
