Two people died while six others were injured in a road crash involving a tricycle, known locally as “ombak,” and a pickup truck in Davao City on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

According to initial investigation, the pickup truck was traveling the Davao-Bukidnon Road when the 76-year-old driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle upon reaching a curved portion of Sitio Lanitum, Barangay Suawan, Marilog District, which resulted in the pickup crashing into the tricycle in the opposite lane.

Because of the impact, the tricycle driver died on the spot and his six-year-old passenger did not reach the hospital alive. 

The other passengers of the tricycle who were injured are recuperating, as of this writing.

Investigation into the incident continues.

The pickup truck driver was taken into police custody and may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injury, and damage to property.
