Cause-oriented groups in Cebu staged a protest action on Thursday, May 1, 2025, to mark Labor Day, and to raise once more their concerns to the national government on P1,200 wage hike, job security, labor rights, among others.
The rally started past 9 a.m. on May 1, 2025 along Osmeña Boulevard in Cebu City where the cause-oriented groups converged.
There were groups that marched from Colon Street at the downtown area, and others that waited at a portion of B. Rodriguez Street in midtown area.
The groups reiterated their call for P1,200 minimum daily wage and for regularization at work, immediate assistance to workers who lost their jobs due to shutdown of operations of companies and factories, among other pressing concerns.
The laborers also raised their calls for expanded accessible public service, including free healthcare; quality education, mass housing, and food security; as well as price control to avert further spikes in goods or commodities.
Moreover, the cause-oriented groups with Kilusang Mayo Uno Vice Chairperson Jaime Paglinawan at the helm questioned the sustainability of the P20-per-kilogram rice program. The groups believe the program will last for five months only.
