The authorities have looked into two possible angles in the slay of former mayor and veteran journalist Juan Dayang.
Dayang, called fondly as “Johnny,” a former mayor of Kalibo town in the Province of Aklan, was shot dead inside his house in Barangay Andagao.
Police pursued the angles on politics and his job as a media practitioner.
According to the Aklan Police Provincial Office, backtracking of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footages has been carried out to help establish the identity of the suspect.
Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 ordered a thorough investigation on the incident to determine the mastermind of the crime.
Police have vowed protection for journalists, especially during the elections.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Task Force on Media Security tightens measures leading to the resolution of the said case.
According to Undersecretary Jose Torres, journalists who have received any form of threat, or coercion, must report to their office for immediate assessment on the need for security detail.
