Authorities arrested two high-ranking officials of the CPP-NPA during a COMELEC checkpoint in Tarlac City.
The suspects, identified only by their aliases “Paduk” or “Jing,” 66, and “Dalay,” 60, were caught at around 9 a.m. in Barangay Balete.
Both are residents of Surigao del Sur and have pending cases for destructive arson.
Police said the two are key figures of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee and the Southern Regional Committee of the CPP-NPA.
The Police Regional Office 3 described the arrest as a significant victory in the ongoing campaign against insurgency.
