A watchman was shot dead while resting inside the barangay hall in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.

The victim, 58-year-old Edgar Alvaro Nosis, had just returned from patrolling Barangay Pinmaludpod around 10 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, when an unknown gunman entered the hall and shot him multiple times.

Witnesses said the suspect had an accomplice who waited on a motorcycle outside.

Both fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police said the barangay hall is just a few meters from the precinct, but cops were also out on patrol when the shooting took place.

Authorities are looking at two possible angles — a personal grudge or mistaken identity.

Roselle Mariñas, Duty Officer of Urdaneta City Police Station, said.

The victim’s family, who is seeking justice, believes Nosis was not the target.

"Napagkamalan lang yung kagawad. Natulog doon, ngayon umuwi. Wala na, binaril na dito,” a relative said.

The barangay captain refused to comment but promised to support the victim’s family.

Police investigation continues as of this writing.
