Police have launched a thorough investigation into the explosion in front of the house of a candidate for vice governor of Maguindanao del Sur.

In a statement, the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) said the explosion happened in front of the house of Maguindanao del Sur vice gubernatorial candidate Hisham Nando in Buluan town evening on May 4, 2025.

No casualties were reported but the explosion caused minor damage to the property’s gate.

Personnel of the Buluan Municipal Police Station and Provincial Explosive Canine Unit responded immediately to secure the area and conduct post-blast investigation.

PRO-BAR said it is coordinating closely with local officials and other agencies to ensure a swift and impartial probe.

The evidence recovered by authorities is now in police custody and will be subjected to forensic examination to determine the type of explosive device used.

Investigation continues to identify the perpetrator and determine the motive.

“PRO BAR remains firmly committed to protecting the integrity of the democratic process, especially during the election period. Security measures across the region are being intensified to safeguard all candidates and the general public. We will act decisively against any attempt to disturb peace and order,” PRO-BAR said.

“We urge the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and continue cooperating with authorities by reporting any suspicious activity. Timely updates will be provided as the investigation develops,” it added.

Last month, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) placed Buluan town under its control following a shooting incident and other incidents since the start of the election period on January 12, 2025.
