More than 100 houses were razed to the ground after a fire hit a residential area in Barangay Labangal, General Santos City.

The fire broke out shortly before midnight on Monday, May 5, 2025, and was put out after more than three hours.

“Yung papeles namin nasunog. Sana matulungan kame magkabahay,” Abdul Said Laki, one of the affected residents, said.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the cost of damage was estimated at around P420,000.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.

“Actually, walang nasugatan, okay lang po. Nagpasalamat lang din po ako kasi  yung mga tao nagsilikasan lang po lahat. Kaya naiwan yung mga kagamitan nila,” Purok Chairman, Jacob Araham, said.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) is still assessing the number of families affected, as of this writing.

The families affected are taking shelter temporarily at the barangay gymnasium and were given immediate assistance by the local government.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
