The family of a former mayor and veteran journalist in Kalibo town, Province of Aklan has called for justice in the slay of their father.
Jed Dayang, in a family statement, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, appealed for justice for his 89-year-old father, Juan “Johnny” Dayang.
“Today [May 7, 20225] we lay our beloved father, Tay Johnny Dayang, to rest at Manila Memorial Park. He was more than a journalist — he was a father, a mentor, and a proud Aklanon who gave his life to the service of truth and the community,” the Dayang family statement reads.
“We thank everyone who stood with us in this time of grief. But our mourning is not complete — because there is still no justice,” the family added.
“We appeal to our fellow Aklanons, the Philippine media, and national authorities: Please help us seek justice. We will not stop until the truth is revealed and those responsible are held accountable. Justice for Johnny Dayang," the statement further said
Dayang was shot dead in his residence in Villa Salvacion, Barangay Andagao, Kalibo evening on April 29, 2025.
