Three days to the National and Local Elections on Monday, May 12, 2025, Police General Rommel Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), visited Eastern Visayas to inspect election preparations in the region.
Marbil reiterated the target of the PNP for the midterm elections on zero incidences of election-related violence.
In a visit at Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, Marbil led a command conference.
Taken up were the preparations for the elections and the goal of the PNP to make the elections peaceful and orderly.
“Ang pangako namin, lalo na't galing ako dito, zero violence. Go for zero violence buong Pilipinas pre-election, during the election, and post election. So I just reminded them na pagkatapos ng eleksyon, tuloy-tuloy pa rin,” Marbil said.
All systems go for the midterm elections in the Province of Leyte, according to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
The election officer in Tacloban City said that there are about 146,000 voters and he urged them to go out on election day and cast their vote.
“That’s correct. We encourage them to be prepared na of their chosen candidates. Mahirap na kung dyan ka pa lang maghahanda kung nando'n ka na sa voting center,” Atty. Ramon Dadulla Jr., Tacloban City election officer, said.
In addition, COMELEC 8 disclosed that about five candidates in Region 8 have been investigated on alleged vote buying and abuse of government resources in their campaign.
The candidates were already issued show cause order, COMELEC 8 added.
“Mag-explain po sila kung bakit hindi po sila dapat kasuhan ng vote buying or petition for disqualification,” said Atty. Ma. Krishna Athena Elardo, regional election attorney at COMELEC 8.
COMELEC 8 has assured they are ready to receive any complaints against candidates for them to be able to launch an investigation for appropriate action.
