With Mother's Day just around the corner, flower shops in Pangasinan are seeing a surge in sales as people rush to find the perfect bouquet for their moms — or in memory of them.
At a local flower shop in Calasiao, sales have doubled in recent days.
Che Bermache, a flower shop owner in Calasiao, said sales have doubled in recent days.
“Yung ganitong bouquet P850, regular price namin 'yan,” she said.
For some, like Alicia Baldeo, flowers are more than just gifts, they’re a tribute.
“Sa nanay at biyenan ko, oh you make me cry... they passed away... dadalhin ko [ito] sa sementeryo,” she said.
In Dagupan City, fresh flowers from Baguio have already arrived in time for the celebration. Despite the growing demand, prices have remained steady, unlike during Valentine’s Day.
“Yung stargazer sir ang mabili. Saka yung gerbera, roses, sunflower — pag Mother’s Day talaga. Okay naman yung presyo, ‘di gaya sa Valentine’s Day,” Merlita Reyes, a flower vendor and seamstress, said.
Traditionally, carnations are the official flower of Mother’s Day, chosen by its founder, Anna Jarvis, in 1908. But this year, buyers are also going for unique options like satin and crochet bouquets.
