A waterspout was spotted on the waters of San Jose town, Province of Antique.

According to the Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), two motorboats on the coast tipped over as the waterspout hit land past 4 p.m. on May 8, 2025.

“Sa dagat siya nag-form. Medyo matagal dahil nakakuha pa siya ng buwelo at lakas. That is why, medyo malaki siya dahil nag-form sya sa tubig. Waterspout siya,” Jeff Maquiling, PAGASA Iloilo weather forecaster, said.

The waterspout moved toward land reportedly in about two minutes passing by four barangays. These are Barangay 4, Barangay Malaiba, Barangay Maybato Norte, and Barangay San Angel.

In Barangay San Angel, at least 11 houses have been partially damaged with 14 families affected.

As of this writing, residents have started repairing their houses.

No one was reported injured in the incident, according to the PDRRMO of Antique.

“Wala namang reported na nasaktan during nang pagtama ng buhawi. Malaki ang mga boat. Malakas talaga ang buhawi kasi nakita mo, napataob nito ang bangka. Malakas ang hanging dala ng buhawi,” said Broderick Train, head of Antique PDRRMO.

According to Antique PDRRMO, a waterspout is usually spotted after a thunderstorm.

Residents in coastal areas have been reminded once more to be vigilant about weather disturbances.
