Police have investigated an allegation of a 23-year-old female college student that she was held up by a lone perpetrator along Lacson Street in Bacolod City.

The incident happened allegedly at about 6 p.m. on May 8, 2025.

The student told police that she was walking along Lacson Street supposedly to buy food for dinner when the suspect approached her and poked a knife against her chest.

She said that because of fright, she handed over quickly to the suspect the money she has worth P49,000.

She said that the money would have been for a cousin’s tuition.

“Baka hindi siya kampanteng iwanan ang pera doon sa boarding house kasi baka mawala. Nag-report sya na hinoldap,” Major Eugene Tolentino, chief of Police Station 2, said.

There is no closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in the area where the holdup allegedly happened. There was no witness to the reported incident either, police said.

Following the report, the caretaker of the boarding house where the victim lives mulled on tightened security in the area.

“10 p.m. ang aming curfew tapos hindi na maaaring lumabas. Maaga silang umuwi,” Genus Gicar, the dormitory caretaker, said.

GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas tried to seek a comment from the victim, but she refused an interview.

Other students who live in the area have been alerted following the incident.

“Common na dito na may nang-sna-snatch, riding in tandem,” Kesia Mae Olid, a student, said.

“This will serve as a lesson na maging alert and aware at all times. Sa ganitong moment, a call to install CCTV at security,” another student, Queenie Peñas, said.
