Two elderly men in Albay and Pangasinan braved the heat to cast their ballot for the midterm polls on May 12, 2025.

Unknown to them, it would be their last vote.

In Albay, 65-year-old voter died after collapsing shortly after casting his ballot at a polling precinct in Oas, Albay morning on Monday during #Eleksyon2025.

The victim was identified as Nestor Rensales of Barangay Talongog.

Police report said Rensales had just finished voting at Cluster Precinct 68 at Oas South Central School in Barangay Ilaor Sur when he began feeling dizzy.

He reportedly informed his wife, Juana Rosayaga Rensales, before losing consciousness around 6:05 a.m.

Polling personnel alerted the medical team assigned at the site immediately.

Responders administered first aid and rushed him to Josefina Belmonte Duran Albay Provincial Hospital in Ligao City, but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

According to the police report, the victim had a history of stroke.

Meanwhile, in Binmaley, Pangasinan, 68-year-old Loreto Doria collapsed and died shortly after casting his vote at Gayaman Elementary School.

Authorities said he arrived at the voting center around 6:15 a.m. and proceeded directly to his assigned polling precinct.

Teachers serving as members of the Electoral Board said Doria appeared to be in good health while voting and showed no sign of discomfort.

He exited the precinct without issue, but just a few meters from the school gate, he collapsed suddenly and hit his head on the ground.

His relatives arrived nearly 30 minutes later and rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

Doria’s family expressed shock over the incident, saying he had no known illness and was strong enough to go out and vote on his own.
