Two people were killed in an ambush while on their way to their polling precinct to vote in Barangay Rinabor, Bayang, Lanao del Sur morning on Monday, May 12, 2025.

The Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the fatalities as Afganie “A Luv” Balt Taha, candidate for municipal councilor, and Walid Balt Taha, sibling of the chairman of Barangay Sumbag.

Police said the victims were walking toward Mauyag Papandayan National High School, where their polling precinct is located, when they were gunned down by unidentified assailants around 8 a.m.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive.

Lanao del Sur PPO condemned the incident and deployed more personnel to pursue the suspects.

"Ating paigtingin ang imbestigasyon sa insidenteng ito upang matukoy kung sinuman ang suspek at makamit ang hustisya," Lanao del Sur PPO Director, Col. Robert Daculan, said.
