Up to 64 suspected flying voters were arrested with explosives and deadly weapons in Buluan, Maguindanao del Sur on election day, May 12, 2025.
According to the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), security forces responded to a commotion along the national highway in Poblacion, Buluan, which resulted in the arrest of the 64 individuals.
During verification, it was found that the 64 are not residents of Buluan.
Authorities also seized from them two hand grenades and several deadly weapons.
PRO-BAR Director, Brigadier General Romeo Macapaz, lauded the operating team for the swift response.
“This operation reflects our commitment to ensuring a safe, fair, and credible electoral process. The presence of explosives and weapons among suspected flying voters is a serious threat that we will never tolerate,” Macapaz said.
Authorities are investigating the group’s origin, affiliations, and possible motives.
The arrested individuals may face charges for possible election offenses, illegal possession of explosives and deadly weapons.
Buluan has been placed under the control of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) since April 15, amid a series of election-related violent incidents.
