Incumbent Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy and majority of candidates under the administration-backed One Kagay-an slate secured victory in the 2025 midterm elections.
The City Board of Canvassers proclaimed the winners at the City Council session hall on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Uy was reelected to a second term with an overwhelming 175,686 votes, defeating four other candidates.
“Mao ra gihapon, magpadayun ta sa atong naandan nga nagustohan na mga programa nga gobyerno duol kanunay sa katawhan, Ang katawhan kanunay duol sa gobyerno,” Uy said.
Uy’s running mate, incumbent Vice Mayor Jocelyn Rodriguez, also retained her post with 243,080 votes.
The majority of administration-backed One Kagay-an candidates for the city council were also proclaimed winners.
In the congressional races, incumbent First District Congressman Lordan Suan was reelected after defeating his closest rival in a tightly contested race.
He secured a total of 88,526 votes, while his opponent, Mayor Uy’s son Raineir Joaquin Uy, garnered 85,099 votes.
Prior to the proclamation, Uy’s camp filed a manifestation seeking to suspend the proclamation, citing a pending disqualification case filed against Suan over alleged massive and blatant vote-buying.
However, after deliberation, the Board of Canvassers decided to proceed with the proclamation, pending a final ruling from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) en banc.
“Maasahan po natin na mas marami yung projects, mas marami yung meaningful laws na gagawin natin and yung social services dahil pangalawang pagkakataon,” Suan said.
Suan declined to comment on the disqualification case.
Meanwhile, Congressman Rufus Rodriguez will serve his fiinal term after winning as second district representative with 127,646 votes.
