Just a day after the elections, local governments began removing campaign materials across towns and cities, aiming to restore cleanliness to streets once filled with posters and tarpaulins.
At 8 a.m. on May 14, cleanup crews in Calasiao, Pangasinan, started taking down election paraphernalia, including political posters and commercial advertisements.
Mayor Kevin Roy Macanlalay led the operation and called on barangay officials to help out.
Instead of throwing them away, the collected tarpaulins will be reused as festive decorations for future town events.
Macanlalay also clarified that campaign materials posted inside private residences would not be removed unless homeowners agreed.
Residents like Michael Aquino supported the move, saying it helps improve the town’s appearance.
In Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, young volunteers joined the cleanup efforts in their barangays, removing remaining campaign materials.
Some groups also plan to recycle the tarpaulins for other uses.
