Ashfall has already affected at least 21 barangays in Bacolod City, according to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO).

The ashfall occurred after an explosive eruption of Mount Kanlaon dawn on May 13, 2025.

Thin ashes fell on vehicles and rooftops in the 21 barangays.

“Ang dami-dami. Ang baho ng asupre. Ang sakit sa mata,” Neneng, a resident, said.

“Nakita namin puro abo ang mga sasakyan. Ang mga shorts na itim, nagiging puti,” Rosalyn de la Cruz, a resident, said.

As of this writing, no eruption has been recorded yet but according to the Office of Civil Defense – Negros Island Region (OCD-NIR), another explosive eruption is highly likely.

Given the situation, over 5,000 individuals have continued to seek shelter at evacuation centers.

In Bago City, La Carlota City, and La Castellana town in Negros Occidental, affected by eruptions in December 2024 and April 2025, the number of evacuees has not increased at all, though, despite the May 13, 2025 event.

“Hindi nadagdagan ang mga nag-evacuate. Wala namang natitira sa six-kilometer (permanent) danger zone,” OCD-NIR Director Donato Sermeno III said.

Alert Level 3 (intensified unrest or magmatic unrest) prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.

There is no recommendation yet to raise the level to Alert Level 4.
