Several areas in Datu Abdullah Sangki, Maguindanao del Sur were flooded following heavy rains evening on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the flooding experienced in the town was caused by the overflowing of the Pamantingan River, which is connected to tributaries in the nearby towns of Esperanza and Isulan in Sultan Kudarat.
“Dahil connected po yung mga river natin sa Esperanza, bumaha po yung tubig galing sa Pamantingan River, bumaba dito diretso sa atin. Affected na area dito sa Barangay Talisawa,” MDRRM Officer, Jurelyn Coloma, said.
Several houses along the riverbanks in Barangay Talisawa were affected by the flood. Fortunately, residents had already evacuated to safer areas before floodwaters rose.
Several motorists were also stranded after the national highway was flooded.
The floodwaters subsided after more than an hour.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the downpour was triggered by the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ).
