The Cagayan de Oro City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) has expressed concern over the recurring problems with garbage collection over the past few days.
CLENRO said it has reached out to the third-party company contracted by the local government to answer why garbage collection has been disrupted.
CLENRO added that several garbage collectors and truck drivers reportedly did not report to work since the day before the election.
“Ang uban kuno nanguli kay eleksyon unya dayun ang uban kini laging utok nga kung makasapi muundang, mupahuway, mag-inom muna wala na nakatunga pero dili mana rason nga malangan ang atong basura tungod ana,” CLENRO Chief, Engr. Armen Cuenca, said.
To address the problem, CLENRO has deployed its own personnel and truck to assist with the collection.
CLENRO also coordinated with other departments of the local government to borrow trucks.
“Ang City Engineers Office ug Public Services ug CLENRO among truck among gamiton napud nga mutabang kay dili man pwede nga pasagdan,” Cuenca added.
The office has sent a letter to the third-party company asking that sanctions be imposed on employees who failed to carry out their duties.
CLENRO also reminded the public not to give money to garbage collectors and urged residents to report such incidents.
“Palihog pagkuha og detalye kay unsaon man nato pag-endorse didto sa ilaha sa (company) kung wala ta’y detalye kung asa na nahitabo, unsang orasa, unsang adlawa, unsa nga truck,” Cuenca said.
The third-party company’s contract will end this month, and CLENRO is working on a new agreement to ensure a more reliable garbage collection system in the city.
