Jeepney drivers in Pangasinan may soon breathe a little easier as over 700 new fuel subsidy cards are set for release this month.
The One Pangasinan Transport Federation confirmed that once the distribution begins, nearly all traditional jeepney drivers in the province will receive aid from the government’s fuel subsidy program.
“Nagsabi na ang LTFRB na 2 days ago dumating na ang mga fuel cards for claiming na. Sa ngayon pina-process nalang and need nalang ang requirements,” Bernard Tuliao, president of the federation, said.
One of the expected beneficiaries, jeepney driver Emerson Toralba, said the help couldn’t come at a better time.
“Makakatulong lalo ang mahal ng kurudo. At least malibre na ang kurudo namin,” he said.
Tuliao said they are just waiting for the go signal from the central office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
“’Yung requirements naman ay isa-submit na, tapos punta kami sa LTFRB for clearance and then bibigyan na kami ng endorsement ng LTFRB to claim sa Landbank,” he said.
The subsidy comes as fuel prices continue to rise, affecting the daily earnings of public transport drivers.
