An alleged high-ranking leader of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Maute Group (DI-MG) was killed in an armed encounter in Bacolod-Kalawi, Lanao del Sur.

Authorities identified the fatality as alias “Mas-od” or “Mahater,” who was one of the military’s primary targets.

The military said he was allegedly involved in the bombing incident at the Mindanao State University (MSU) gymnasium in Marawi City that killed four people and injured more than 40 others last December 3, 2023.

According to the 103rd Infantry Brigade, the exchange of fire lasted for about 15 minutes.

Authorities recovered a Colt M16A1 rifle, magazines, ammunition, ISIS flag, cellphones, and other belongings from the clash site.

The military remains on heightened alert to ensure public safety and to prevent retaliatory attacks from the terrorist group.
