At least seven houses were razed to the ground after a fire broke out at a residential area in Barangay Camaman-an, Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Residents rushed to save their belongings as the fire spread quickly.
“Tingala ko nag singgita na man gud sila gibalewala ra nako pagkusog sa ilang tingog ni gawas ko nagkalayo naman dayon ang balay akong na dungog naay nibuto nga kuryente,” Jack Jabido, one of the residents affected, said.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), some of the houses affected were made of light materials, prompting firefighters to raise the fire to second alarm.
BFP is looking into illegal flying connection as possible cause of the fire since the houses were built close to each other.
“Ang origin of fire diri ilang sir Achacoso nga balay second floor pero ang cause of fire ato pa na subayon gyud,” Nazareth Fire Station Investigator, FO3 Kevin Carl Vallejos, said.
The damage to properties reached nearly P2 million.
Authorities continue to profile the affected families for the assistance.
Meanwhile, the residents displaced are staying temporarily at the barangay covered court.
