A 63-year-old man died while three others were injured when a trailer truck allegedly hit a car on the Maharlika Highway in Barangay Lasang, Davao City.

Based on investigation, the car and the truck were traveling southbound when the truck allegedly hit the car and dragged it toward the center island.

One of the passengers of the car died while three others, including the driver, were rescued.

The truck driver was unharmed.

According to the Land Transportation Office-Davao (LTO-11), most road accidents are still caused by human error rather than mechanical failure.

LTO-11 said no matter how much they intensify road safety awareness, the problem will continue to persist if drivers are not disciplined.

“Malaking factor talaga ang pagiging disiplinadong driver pagdating sa pagmamaneho…It’s sad to note na meron pa rin talagang drivers na gumagamit ng cellphone while driving so nadi-distract si driver,” LTO-11 Regional Law Enforcement Unit Chief, Yuri Lim, said.

Despite this, LTO-11 continues to raise awareness on road safety.

Lim added that road conditions must also be assessed, citing the need for more traffic audits, streetlights, and road signage to help prevent accidents.

“May mga old roads na kailangan na po nating i-revisit for traffic audit para ma-determine kung kailangan ng dagdag na maliwanag na streetlights, additional road signs o kailangan ba dagdagan ng strips para ma-minimize ang over-speeding natin,” Lim added.
