A police officer and a soldier were killed in separate road accidents in Misamis Oriental.

In Gingoog City, a police staff sergeant assigned to the First Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Based on investigation, the police officer was heading to Gingoog City while the SUV was traveling in the opposite direction toward Cagayan de Oro City when the accident happened.

“Nadala pa ang maong pulis sa Polymedic hospital sa Gingoog apan pag-abot didto gi-declare na siya nga dead on arrival,” Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Capt. Geraldine Botanas, said.

Authorities said both parties have reportedly reached an amicable settlement.

Meanwhile, a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) also died in a separate collision involving his motorcycle and an SUV along the national highway in Libertad town.

Police said the SUV attempted to overtake another vehicle but encroached on the lane of the motorcycle, which resulted in the collision.

Because of the impact, the soldier was thrown off the motorcycle.

He was rushed to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.

“Base sa report ang army na assign sa FSRR Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City but then taga Maanas, Medina ni siya,” Botanas said.

The driver of the SUV is facing an inquest proceeding as the family of the soldier is determined to press charges.
