A man and a woman drowned after they were swept away by floodwaters while swimming at a waterfall in Barangay Cacub, Koronadal City.
Some residents reportedly saw the woman being carried away by the raging waters. Minutes later, her lifeless body was found about two kilometers downstream.
The man’s body, on the other hand, was found at a tree in the stream around 500 meters away from the falls.
Authorities have retrieved the bodies.
Police said the two were friends. The woman, reportedly a teacher, and the man, a delivery rider, were both residents of Barangay Paraiso.
“Both are actually without sign of life, without pulse, without breathing. By observation, lifeless bodies na ang nakita,” City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Head, Cyrus Jose Urbano, said.
Police added that the two were swimming when floodwaters caught up with them. Strong current swept them away.
CDRRMO said the flooding was caused by heavy rains in the upland area about 30 minutes before the incident.
CDRRMO warned the public to remain vigilant when swimming in streams, especially when rains are experienced in upland areas.
