Fisherfolk and boat operators in northern and eastern Luzon were warned Monday night about the possible falling debris from a rocket China is set to launch between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The Cagayan Valley Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CVRDRRMC) said debris from China’s Long March 7A rocket launch in Hainan could fall within Philippine waters.

According to CVRDRRMC Chair Leon Rafael, the possible drop zones are:

  • 62 nautical miles (NM) off Dalupiri Island, Calayan, Cagayan
  • 40 NM off Burgos, Ilocos Norte
  • 80 NM off Camiguin Norte, Calayan
  • 68 NM off Santa Ana, Cagayan

Authorities urge fisherfolk and boat operators to avoid sailing the areas near the drop zones.

Agencies like the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and others were also advised to consider temporary restrictions in the areas affected.
