A week after the elections, campaign posters are still visible in the streets of Dagupan City - hanging on trees, electric posts, and walls.
Some are still attached to trees, while others are left hanging on power poles and building walls.
According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Central Pangasinan, these materials must be removed immediately to protect the environment and restore the city's public spaces.
“’Pag naging basura ‘yan, sisirain ‘yung soil. Sisirain ‘yung dagat,” Engr. Noriel Nisperos, CENR Officer of Central Pangasinan, said.
The Environmental Management Bureau already issued a memorandum urging DENR field offices to work with local government units in collecting and repurposing campaign materials through reuse and recycling.
“Tapos na eleksyon. Wala na dapat nakalagay na election paraphernalia sa mga puno,” Nisperos added.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) also reminded candidates of their obligation to remove campaign posters within five days after the election.
“Kung hindi pa natanggal ‘yan, padadalhan namin kayo ng notice. Puwedeng gamitin for possible prosecution for election offense,” Dagupan City Election Officer Atty. Michael Franks Sarmiento said.
