Nearly 100 families were affected by flooding in Davao City on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
According to a report by GMA Regional TV One Mindanao, more than 21 families were affected in Sitio Licanan, Aries, Lituan, and Virgo in Barangay Lasang after the Licanan River reportedly overflowed following heavy rains and high tide.
Floodwaters reportedly reached above knee-deep, leaving several motorists stranded on the highway.
In Barangay Bunawan Proper, around 69 families were displaced by the flood.
Affected residents were given immediate assistance by the local government.
Based on monitoring by the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the Licanan River and Bunawan River were placed on code red around 1 a.m. on Tuesday due to continuous rainfall brought about by localized thunderstorms and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
