An elementary school in Leganes town, Province of Iloilo was ransacked.

The burglars carted away two television (TV) units from the Sofia Gustilo Elementary School in Barangay Nabitasan, Leganes.

Scene of the Crime Operatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have already inspected the two classrooms.

The burglary took place morning on May 19, 2025. Door knobs of the Grade 5-A and Grade 5-B classrooms were destroyed.

It was learned that the two rooms were used as polling precincts during the May 2025 midterm elections.

Teachers discovered morning on May 19, 2025 that TV units have been missing from the two classrooms.

“Mahalaga talaga sa amin yun. Actually, effort yun ng Elementary Day namin last year. Lahat kami may TV,” Mae Sustento, a teacher, said.

The two stolen TV units cost a total of P20,000.

According to police investigation, it is highly possible that the thieves took the TV units at nighttime.

"Pagkatapos po ng election wala pong work, weekends po yun and then a week after wala pong teachers natin doon so nagkaroon ng opportunity ang mga kawatan,” said Police Captain General Enrique Robles, chief of Leganes Municipal Police Station.

There is no closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera in the campus.

The school head has mulled on asking assistance from the Local Government Unit (LGU) for the hiring of a watchman to avoid a similar incident.

"I-follow up ko ang ni-request ko kay mayor na tanod, I mean watchman, dahil wala kaming tanod. Meron lang kami tagatawid sa mga bata,” Gema Ambut, the school head, said.

The police already have persons of interest in the burglary.
