An Army officer was found dead following a bee attack during a combat operation in Barangay Lunotan, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.

Police identified the fatality as a 28-year-old first lieutenant assigned to the 58th Infantry Battalion (58IB).

Based on investigation, a squad of A/58IB led by the victim was conducting combat operations around 11 a.m. on May 18, 2025 when they disturbed a beehive accidentally, which triggered the attack.

The soldiers scattered in various directions to escape the swarm. Several troops reportedly sustained injuries during the incident.

At about 1:30 p.m., six members of the squad regrouped. However, the victim remained missing.

A search and rescue operation was then launched.

The victim’s body was found at the foot of a cliff the next day.

Investigation into the incident continues, as of this writing.
