Despite the first quarter of 2025 recording more dengue cases in Region 1 compared to the same period of 2024, health officials said there is no need to panic as the number of cases has started to go down in the month of May.

“Ang dengue naman, as of our latest monitoring as of April 26, ang trend natin ay pababa naman na,” Center for Health Development in Region 1 (CHD-1) spokesperson Dr. Rheuel Bobis said.

A total of 2,095 suspected dengue cases were reported in the region during the same period, 164 percent higher compared to the 793 cases recorded in the same timeframe in 2024.

CHD-1 has recorded 10 dengue-related deaths from January to April 26, 2025. Most of the fatalities were in Pangasinan, with seven deaths, followed by two in La Union and one in Dagupan City.

Authorities remain cautious, warning that dengue cases may spike again during the wet season, specifically between July and September.

All public hospitals in Region 1 remain on alert and continue to operate dengue fast lanes for quick treatment.

The symptoms of dengue include flu-like fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, vomiting, swollen glands, and rashes.

CHD-1 continues to remind the public to seek immediate medical help at the nearest health center if any symptoms appear.
