The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to launch an investigation on an exposed "scam hub" in Cebu City that has operated allegedly in the guise of a contact center.

Frederick Amores, DICT Central Visayas regional director, confirmed that their head office will conduct a probe into the alleged scam hub in Cebu City.

Earlier, the DICT has coordinated with their counterpart at the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit (RACU) on the legal process of gathering of data from computers and gadgets left by personnel of the alleged scam hub.

RACU has worked on securing a cyber warrant from the court to be able to gather pieces of evidence from the hub.

A site inspection was conducted by personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 and the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) along with personnel of the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in the establishment where the alleged scam hub has thrived.

The BPLO issued the show cause order to the management of the said hub prior to the closure of the site.

Moreover, Amores pointed out that the hub is more involved in investment scheme that pretended to be a business process outsource (BPO) center.

Based on an assessment on the video that went viral on social media, hub workers lure their victims to certain investment schemes that promise large profit and quick return of investment.
