Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) commander Sultan Abdullah Macapaar, known as “Commander Bravo,” has met with the officials of the Department of Interior and Local Government-Northern Mindanao (DILG-10) to discuss government programs amid the ongoing peace negotiation between the government and the MILF.

Macapaar said while the decommissioning process for MILF combatants began in 2018 in exchange for cash grant and livelihood assistance, many have yet to receive full government support.

“Ang hinihintay lang po namin yung housing may ground breaking na doon sa kampo ang hinihintay namin yung process ang gusto po namin mabilisan kaso ang mga combatant po natin wala na pong bahay,” Macapaar said.

Despite the government’s shortcomings, Macapaar assured that he still supports the peace process.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) also explained that the programs of the national government for the decommissioning of MILF combatants continue.

“Unang binigay is 100 thousand yung 100 thousand para as gesture of sincerity and friendship,” OPAPRU Consultant, Mosa Sanguila, said.

DILG-10 also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the peace process.

“Atong ma honor ang gains sa peace process ug sa peace agreement gusto sab nato nga kini siya ma sustain para malantawan nato ang inclusive and meaningful development,” DILG-10 Director, Bruce Colao, said.

Macapaar also met with the officials of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) to address security concerns in Lanao del Norte, particularly in Munai town where one of the largest MILF camps is located.

“Peace is possible when we come together not as former rivals but as partners working toward a common goal what we are witnessing is transformation from conflict to cooperation,” PRO-10 Director, Brigadier General Jaysen De Guzman, said.
