A couple and their minor son were killed brutally inside their house in Barangay Managok, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
Police said the victims may have been struck in the head with a hammer and a steel pipe. The two alleged weapons were recovered from the crime scene.
The couple’s two other children managed to escape and seek help, prompting the barangay council to alert authorities.
“(During) the incident sir immediate after before pa sila makita nakapagtago pa sila. So morning na sila nagreport sa Brgy Official at saka morning na pud na-inform ang PNP Malaybalay,” Bukidnon Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Major Jayvee Babaan, said.
No one may have witnessed the incident as it reportedly happened shortly before midnight on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, and the house is located in an upland area of the barangay.
The victims’ bodies were discovered the next day.
Investigators are looking into multiple angles as motive, including possible personal vendetta.
“Accordingly, ang business nitong mag-asawa is landscaping so we are looking into it kung may naka-kontrahan ba sila for the said incident. Kung may previous history ba sila sa mga na-kontrahan nila kung may kaalitan ba sila before sa tragic na incident,” Babaan added.
Police ruled out robbery as possible motive since the victims’ valuables, including money, remained untouched.
The two minor survivors are now under government custody and will undergo counseling.
Authorities have already identified persons of interest who may have a hand in the killing.
“Sa populace ng Bukidnon we are encouraging kung may information sila in regard to this incident o kahit ano na lead na lang sa investigation para ma-identify lang itong perpetrators you are most welcome sa Malaybalay City Police Station,” Babaan said.
